Community groups can claim a share of $50,000 worth of grants being offered by Savings & Loans.
Savings & Loans’ Positive Impact Grants reward community groups or sporting clubs for volunteering their time to a worthwhile cause, such as helping disadvantaged people or doing conservation work.
Senior Manager of Corporate Social Responsibility Brent Hill said that the Positive Impact Grants could be used to upgrade facilities, buy new equipment or put on an event, with grants of up to $5,000 up for grabs.
“Local groups can use the money for anything that benefits them, or the wider community,” Mr Hill said.
“For some, that might mean buying new equipment for a local soccer team, or for others it might mean fixing up clubrooms or a canteen.”
Mr Hill said that as well as giving support to local clubs, the Positive Impact Grants would encourage people to give back to the community in ways they might not usually think of.
“There aren’t really any limits as to what sort of volunteering the clubs can do, but things like helping Conservation Volunteers Australia plant some native trees or doorknocking for the Salvation Army would all be fantastic initiatives.
“If the whole club gets behind the project then the volunteering could all be finished within an afternoon.
“We’re really passionate about developing sustainable communities and supporting local sporting and social clubs is a big part of this commitment.
“And by encouraging the clubs to support charity, the benefits just keep on growing.“
