Reducing our Environmental Footprint to zero by 2010

Savings & Loans is well on its way to being carbon neutral by December 2010 through a program called Project Zero.

What do we mean by ‘carbon neutral’?

Almost everything we do produces carbon, from switching on computers to starting up our cars. Reducing the amount of carbon we produce is the most important part of Project Zero. We're doing this by using less energy, changing to green power and encouraging our staff to become more waste-conscious and energy efficient.

It’s not possible to reduce our carbon emissions to zero, so at the end of 2010 we’ll offset our remaining carbon footprint through offsetting programs.

Why is carbon dioxide bad?

The scientific community overwhelmingly recognises that carbon dioxide (or CO2) thickens the Earth’s atmosphere and traps heat, leading to global warming.

The increase in average global temperatures will have far-reaching effects. Sea levels will rise, flooding coastal areas. Heat waves will be more frequent and more intense. Droughts and wildfires will occur more often, and species will be pushed to extinction.

You can join us in reducing your environmental footprint. Visit the United Nations Environmental Program website to find out more about global warming and how you can help prevent it.
