As well as helping home grown initiatives, Savings & Loans is proud to support credit unions overseas.
Savings & Loans is proud to support the Credit Union Foundation Australia (CUFA) and the work it does in assisting credit unions in the Asia Pacific region. CUFA is currently working in Cambodia, Tonga, Tuvalu, Sri Lanka, East Timor and the Solomon Islands to help build infrastructure and support services for local credit unions.
Savings & Loans staff get involved
Savings & Loans staff have volunteered in Tonga to prepare a preliminary report into the introduction of a ‘Credit Union Bank’, which would help credit unions provide a wider range of affordable products and services to their local community.
The work in Tonga is a great example of the core values of credit unions: helping people access community-based financial services. When operating in small villages, credit unions and local communities depend on each other – people often need loans to help become self-sufficient.
Our staff have also raised money to support CUFA’s programs in Cambodia and have seen first-hand the work being done to alleviate poverty in the country.
Working with CUFA is just one dimension of Savings & Loans' commitment to the community and shows the way we uphold the credit union values.
